SmartGym is a holistic fitness data platform that provides users with fitness insights measured through a series of connected sensors built into gym equipment. These sensors are currently installed on three types of gym equipment: 1) weight stack machines, 2) treadmills and 3) weighing machines. SmartGym equipment is currently deployed in three ActiveSG community gyms across Singapore – Our Tampines Hub, Jurong East and Heartbeat @ Bedok.

随着社会进步与经济发展,人们强身健体的意识增强,全民健身越来越重要。智能健身房项目致力于打造“智慧国”的体育基础:提高全民身体素质、健康水平和生活质量。政府科技局(GovTech)开发的智能健身房(SmartGym)收集传感器在各种健身器材上的应用数据,以便能构建带有智能全民健身公共服务体系,让健身锻炼变得更加智能贴心。

改善用户体验与品牌更新

I initiated a rebranding experience for SmartGym with the evaluation of  the user experience through qualitative and quantitative studies, working specifically on the weighing scale. I moderated on-site user interviews and usability testings which were conducted with specific tasks assigned to users to evaluate user needs, painpoints, contextual and behavioural assessment. Heuristic evaluation (based on Nielsen Norman)  was also carried out to improve user experience. The brand direction and design principles were crafted based on these insights.

研究目的从两个维度参考:定性调研(实际去了解用户需求、痛点、真实的情况信息以及行为习惯等特征)和定量调研(了解数据量下的设想和验证,以及查看调研分析转换的结果是否有价值)。经过用户访谈与可用性测试,探索真实和全面的用户侧信息、提炼出有价值的数据观点然后转化为智能健身房的品牌创新和设计进行针对性的考量和优化。

Over a two-month production sprint, the design process focused on improving the smart weighing scale before extending the refreshed user interface to the rest of the gym equipment applications and kiosk. 

由于时间短暂,设计过程主要针对于改进智能体重秤,然后将更新的用户界面扩展到其他健身房设备应用程序。

The previous campaign run indicated that main SmartGym users are between their forties and sixties at the ActiveSG gym in Bedok, which is a mature estate. Therefore, the user testing  was targeted at 55 - 65 years old age range to optimise the design improvements with the elderly in mind.

之前的宣传活动表明,SmartGym 的主要用户年龄在 40 到 65 岁之间。勿洛 ActiveSG 健身房处于一个成熟市镇。因此,用户测试针对的是 55 - 65 岁年龄段,以优化设计改进以高龄人为考虑。

目前部署在新加坡的几個社區健身房

Over a short two month production sprint, the branding and user experience focused on improving the weighing scale before extending the refreshed interface to the kiosk and remaining gym equipment such as the weightstack, track mill etc. SmartGym has since been deployed in community gyms at Our Tampines Hub, Jurong East and Heartbeat @ Bedok. I am thankful to be entrusted with much autonomy and responsibility. I hope the design system established will help SmartGym to be a scalable and robust system.

There are currently 16 treadmills, six weight stack machines, and three weighing machines deployed across three community ActiveSG gyms in Singapore. As of May 2021, there have been more than 1,500 SmartGym users.

在短短两个月,品牌推广和用户体验的设计重点是针对电子体重秤进行改进,再将重塑的交互设计扩展到其他健身设备,如重量堆栈、跑步机等。目前,智能健身房已部署在淡滨尼,勿洛以及裕廊东社区健身房。上述的设计仍有待提高,我非常感激同事们给予我的信任和肯定。我很荣幸能够进入政府科技局的用户体验设计实习岗位,也希望构建的设计系统将继续帮助智能健身房扩展为全民第一健身平台。
